Executive Director, International Cocoa Initiative (ICI)
Nick Weatherill has been the Executive Director at the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) since September 2011, leading the foundation’s efforts to strengthen child protection and tackle child labour in cocoa growing. As a multi-stakeholder initiative driving good practice and collective action, ICI upholds a principle of shared responsibility for eliminating child labour (across the cocoa industry, civil society and origin governments). ICI currently operates in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire, with a strategy that focuses on supporting child-centered community development, promoting responsible supply-chain management, and building knowledge, capacity and influence. Prior to joining ICI, Nick worked for 17 years in the humanitarian sector, for the European Commission, the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), and for a number of NGOs. Specializing in food security, livelihoods and public health, he developed international policies, defined humanitarian strategies, and coordinated relief and recovery operations in 22 countries of Sub-Saharan Africa.
