H.E. Iván Ontaneda Berrú
Iván Ontaneda Berrú (Loja-Cariamanga) is a businessman and agro industrial entrepreneur of cacao and coffee with 30 years of experience, specialized in the development of international business, proud member of the second generation of an agro-exporter family and a pioneer in the implementation of inclusive businesses and production chains with small cacao producers. In 2019 he was named Ecuador’s Minister of Production, International Trade, Investments and Fishery. In his first speech he stated that one of the main axes of his management will be achieving commercial accords in equity conditions for Ecuador and partner countries in the exterior; besides, pointing out, the importance of an articulated work between the public and private sector.
From 2017 to 2019 Iván Ontaneda Berrú served as Chairman of FEDEXPOR (Ecuador’s Federation of Exporters). From 2017 to 2018 he was a member of the Advisory, Productive, and Tax Council (Presidency of the Ecuadorian Republic), from 2015 to 2016 Chairman of the International Cocoa Organization ICCO and from 2012 to 2016 Chairman of ANECACAO (National Association of Exporters and Cacao Industrials of Ecuador). From 2015 to 2016 he was Vice President of the Ecuadorian Business Committee. From 1994 to 2019 he worked as CEO and founder of Eco-Kakao S.A. (one of Ecuador’s 10 biggest cacao exporting businesses). From 1998 to 2004 he was President of Ontaneda & Ontaneda Café Gourmet S.A., a company dedicated to the development and exportation of specialty coffees to Europe and Japan.
Iván Ontaneda Berrú studied Business Administration at Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil, and obtained an A.S. Degree in Business & Management at ICPR Junior College.
